Description of the ABAB Instruments

The ABAB Inventories evolved from the intensive use of the APDI scales over two decades. The inventories are designed to assess the adolescents and Youth behaviour in an ever changing economic, political, health, educational, psychological, counseling and social reacities of our time. For instance, there are so many issues to consider in the 21^st century regarding adolescents and youth. As a group they are more in number than any other group of human beings on earth today. The world youth report for 2000 indicates that at the turn of the 21^st century, 1.7 billion people are between ages 10-24years. The report went further to indicate that complications of pregnancy, child birth, unsafe abortion are major causes of death for girls between ages 15-19 years. The youngsters also have higher infection rates of sexually transmitted infection (STIic) including HIV/AIDS. Apart from the increase in health hazards psychological problems are soaring beyond expectation for the youngstars. For example manifest adolescent and youth psychological problems of this age such as violence, anxiety, attention deficits, depression learning disabilities, dating, love decision making problems, service, relationship problems, phobias, fears, obsessive-compusive disorder, lack of creativity, immorality and so on.

These problems need to the carefully assessed and managed properly so that adolescents can make more adjusted transitions to adult hood and be useful members of society. This is a critical task to accomplish by heepers if society plans to achieve a better tomorrow.

There are 12 instruments in the ABAB – including:

• Adolescent Addiction Behaviour Inventory was designed to assess the degree of tendency of an adolescent to abuse and addicted to drugs.
• Adolescent Depression Behaviour Inventory was designed to assess teenage and youthful depression.
• NO-TO-Drugs Behaviour Inventory was designed to assess the degree of resistance an adolescent can minister to a pressing peer in school at home.
• Adolescent Personality type is designed to assess the personality type of the adolescent. The adolescent could be type A, Type B or Type C.
• Adolescent Risk taking behaviour is designed to assess the extent to which the adolescent is risk averse or can take calculated risks which encourages him or her to initiate actions, be creative or immovative in life.
• Adolescent Drug taking reasons behaviour Inventory is designed to asses some of the reasons why adolescent decide to take drugs. Knowing such reasons serve as a baseline for prevention and effective management.
• Adolescent Ideative Originality Assessment Scale is desi gned to assess adolescent Creativity knowing the Ideative Originally pattern of the adolescent helpers to know how to new form creativity in adolescence.
• Adolescent Creativity Techniques Checklist is designed to assess adolescent’s awareness about creativity especially the techniques that could be adopted in generative ideas and being innovative.
• Adolescent Decision making Checklists (A,B,C,D,E,F,G) are designed to assess the factors that guide adolescents when they want to make vital decisions such as deciding to have sex, to date, many, make friends, on career in life, to take drugs or join the adult group.
• Adolescent sexual Role Behaviour inventory was designed to assess the sexual role appropriateness of an adolescent in a particular society.
• Violence Adolescent Reproductive, the adolescent’s perception of violence regarding sexual harrassement, rope, assault are in even day living.
• Adolescence Resilency inventory was designed to assess the coping capabilities of the adolescent in the face of difficult situations and circumstances at times created by the adolescent behaviour lifestyles the following sections described the psychometric characteristic of the Inventories.
